Education

Public education is Indiana’s largest public investment — and it’s under attack by privatization schemes and political interference that weaken schools while promising “choice” and “reform.” We’re fighting back to protect our classrooms, our universities, and the future Hoosiers depend on.

What’s at Stake

Indiana’s public education system is being weakened by policies that redirect public dollars into private hands while Hoosier families absorb the consequences. Vouchers and unchecked charter expansion fragment funding, reward selective enrollment, and leave neighborhood schools with fewer resources to serve the students who need them most. At the same time, political interference in higher education governance is eroding trust in universities that should be guided by evidence, academic freedom, and public accountability.

Without stronger protections, we are drifting toward a two-tiered system: premium education for those with access and influence, and underfunded public institutions expected to carry everyone else. Education is not a luxury market or a culture-war playground. It is critical infrastructure. Our communities deserve investment that strengthens public schools and universities for the long term, not policies that extract value and leave the public holding the bill.

Our Commitment

We stand firmly for strong, well-funded public schools and universities that serve all Hoosiers, not systems designed to benefit a select few. We support innovation in education — but only when it is transparent, accountable, and strengthens the public institutions most families rely on. Public dollars should stay in public education, where outcomes can be measured and equity is not optional.

Indiana’s future depends on trust in our classrooms and campuses. That trust is built through evidence-based policy, independent governance, and sustained investment in communities that have historically been left behind. Education policy should be shaped by students, educators, and Hoosiers — not ideology, privatization schemes, or political theater.

Our Plan Includes:

To protect Hoosier communities and restore trust in public education, we’re rejecting privatization schemes and political power grabs masquerading as reform. Our approach puts students, educators, and communities first by keeping public dollars in public systems, demanding accountability, and governing based on evidence rather than ideology. This is how we strengthen Indiana’s schools and universities so they work for everyone — not just the well-connected.

  • Ending voucher expansion that drains funding from public schools
  • Holding charter schools to the same standards as public schools
  • Keeping public education dollars in public classrooms
  • Restoring independent, balanced university governance
  • Protecting academic freedom and free expression on campus
  • Using data and outcomes — not ideology — to guide education policy
  • Reopening Martin University with guaranteed state support
  • Reinvesting in community-serving public institutions
