Women’s Reproductive Rights

Indiana’s current laws are a direct assault on bodily autonomy and the right to privacy. From life-saving medical care to basic reproductive health, I’m fighting to keep the government out of your exam room and ensure healthcare decisions remain between a patient and their doctor.

On Reproductive Freedom and the Right to Privacy

I don’t need to “evolve” my position on reproductive rights for a campaign. I have been a card-carrying member and supporter of Planned Parenthood for nearly twenty years. I didn’t join because it was politically convenient. I joined because I believe healthcare is a human right. The state has no business standing between a woman and her doctor.

Recently, a friend shared why he chose to move to Indiana. Years ago, his wife had an ectopic pregnancy. In Texas, every minute mattered, and there was nowhere for them to turn due to the total abortion ban. Even ectopic pregnancies were not always treated as a life-threatening situation, justifying a medically necessary abortion.

A heartbeat ticking down in Texas could have meant a funeral.

They wanted this child, but were not given the freedom to make their own healthcare choices, a choice that meant life or death for a mother  and may have destroyed their future chances for creating a family. In Indiana, she received the care that saved her life. Today, a healthy toddler is laughing in their living room. Under current laws, that same family would be forced to flee to a neighboring state just to keep a mother alive.

Our Commitment

I’m not just waiting for the laws to change; I’m doing the work on the ground today. Two weeks ago, I visited the Indiana Taskforce as they launched their newest harm reduction vending machine—a vital resource providing free emergency contraceptives, pregnancy tests, and hygiene supplies. I was proud to provide them with a new source of NARCAN for that machine. Public health isn’t a series of silos; it’s a community safety net. When the state fails to provide it, we have to step up for each other.

Hoosiers have always valued keeping government out of our personal business. Protecting our right to privacy is a principle we all share, no matter who we are or where we come from. This isn’t just an attack on healthcare—it’s an assault on privacy. When lawmakers force providers to report or turn over records, they shred HIPAA protections, turn doctors into informants, and undermine the privacy every Hoosier expects in a clinic.

As your State Senator, I will fight to:

  • Codify Bodily Autonomy: We need state-level protections to ensure reproductive healthcare—including abortion—is legal and accessible. It must be treated as the medical necessity it is.
  • Protect Medical Data: I will oppose efforts to weaponize state agencies to track or monitor healthcare choices. HIPAA isn’t a suggestion the state can ignore when it wants to play doctor.
  • Prioritize Evidence-Based Care: Instead of spending taxpayer money on “crisis centers” that spread misinformation, we should invest in the providers who offer comprehensive care, screenings, and family planning.

The government’s authority ends where your body begins. I’m running for Senate to make sure Indiana is a place where families can grow safely, not a place they have to flee in order to survive.
