Infrastructure, Safe Streets, and Public Transportation

Our district includes many residents who rely on public transit, walking, and biking to get around. Building a safe, reliable transportation network for all users isn’t optional — it’s how we support working families and make Indianapolis a city people actually want to visit and invest in.

What’s at Stake

Our district includes many residents who rely on public transportation or other non-vehicular modes of transportation including walking and biking. Many residents do not own cars and rely on better and safer access to these alternate modes of transportation. Vibrant first class cities need to support users of various modes of transportation as we strive to attract visitors from across the country and world to conventions and events in Indianapolis.

Our Commitment

Fixing our streets starts with increasing funding for infrastructure including roadways, sidewalks, and bike lanes and trails and ensuring Indianapolis is given it’s fair share of state funding.

Our Plan Includes:

  • Focusing on funding full resurfacing of streets, not just fixing a recurring problem with temporary solutions which need constant repairs
  • Ensuring increased access to funding for public transportation to decrease reliance on automobiles which will provide less wear and tear on our streets
  • Prioritizing sidewalks and bike lanes, ensuring sidewalks are repaired and bike lanes are safe for those using non-vehicular modes of transportation.
  • Protecting home rule so locally supported transit systems and infrastructure decisions can’t be undermined by lawmakers who don’t represent our community
  • Securing stable, dedicated state funding for bus rapid transit (BRT) and high-capacity transit corridors
