One-Fourth of the Fruit Fly Brain Mapped

The average fruit fly may be as small as the head of a pin but it has about 100,000 neurons in their brain. Janelia has successfully mapped about 25,000 of these in their connectome.

The first human genome took over a decade and about a billion dollars to sequence and was first accomplished in 2003. Today one can sequence an entire human genome in about a day for about $3000. We are going to need to find real advancement in technology with exponential upgrades as we did with BLAST if we are ever going to reach the level of technology in Fall; or, Dodge in Hell as the human brain has about 80 BILLION NEURONS.

WHERE ARE MY QUANTUM COMPUTERS!!!!

HOW TO WRITE BETTER EMAILS

I write this blog as my system of bookmarks these days and nothing more. I also know that friends read it, as they have the past few iterations while I have not gone out of my way to advertise it widely. However, if you are reading this, I am trying to learn to communicate better and if you have ever had an ambiguous email from me — please ask. And I will try to write more gooder better.

Home Hack: Super Slippery Toilet Spray

A new nanotechnology promises to keep our toilets clean. If you are anything like me, your toilet is the last thing you want to clean and the first thing that should be cleaned. SpotLess introduces a coating that lets poop just slide slide slippity slide off the sides of the bowl and down into the drain without sicking and requiring constant scrubbing that you probably won’t be doing.
